Digging Holes

We have a new project this spring, or so the kids would have you think.  It looks like we are planning on doing something with the back part of our yard where we haven't done anything with yet.  Well, that's not entirely true.  We did put down carpet last summer and covered part of it with bark.  The carpet is ground cover and it works really well for our backyard.  Now it looks like we are working on something.  And the answer is . . .

A fabulous hole.  It's getting deep.  According to Sam, they have reached the ocean level and are getting close to the lava level.  (I wish I could remember the exact words he used, he knows his terms.)

So what are we going to do with a hole that is 12-18" deep?  The kids think they are going to sleep in it this summer when we camp outside.  I love it, I am almost willing to let them try.  This hole was originally started as part of worm farm.  Sam was looking for worms to collect so that we could put them in the garden.  Now it has grown (and I think they are already through the layer likely to have worms in yard, Sam did say today they had reached clay--really, you think so?). In the meantime we did think about showing them other places that they could dig and then planting trees in their holes.  So this is how they spent two hours of the day today, not only on the hole but playing outside.  I can't complain with that.

Braided hair

This is what happens when Michelle gets her hair braided. I love it! It's a rare day when she will let me do her hair, although she loves to put in flowers and headbands on her own.

p.s. The Maui link has been fixed if anyone is still interested. :)

New baby blanket

My most recent project.  A baby blanket for my new niece.  This was a fun flannel that I had in my stash and some really soft fleece.  I don't know if you can see the quilting that I did, I freehanded (following my drawing) a picture of the owls that are on the flannel.  I thought it looked adorable!

Hope she enjoys it!

My girls

Okay just a couple of random photos of my girls. (Hawaii photos will be posted later, the link will be fixed later as well--tech support is studying like the good student he is).

This picture is for my family: recognize those clothes? Yes indeed Hannah would be wearing one of the old dress up clothes dresses. And Michelle? Well that would be a cabbage patch shirt (dress?) she has on. I laughed and had to let you all see it.

My girls went to bed in the laundry baskets last night. Hannah did alright since she had her legs outside of the basket. Michelle did not sleep well and was mad when she woke up in the morning to find that Dad had put her in her bed (from our bed). They are begging to do it again but I need the laundry baskets today.

Happy Birthday Hannah

Happy Birthday to the Hannah girl. We got home in time to help Hannah celebrate her sixth birthday. She loved that she got a crown from school and wore it all day. She got lots of fun presents and we finished off the day with cupcakes and yummy frosting.

Hannah is such a fun girl to have around. She loves to play with her siblings, especially Michelle (provided Michelle is agreeing to play the right way). She is the artist of the family so far. She loves to color and make things with paper, snowflakes and hearts are the current favorites. In fact, if you looked in her room recently you would see remnants of the "snow storm" that came to their room. We love you Hannah!

Happy Birthday to you!
